My passion for tutoring comes from wanting to help children realize their true potential. Teaching should be fun, enriching, and positive. After graduating from Duke University with a degree in psychology, I worked with children and teens in residential treatments and juvenile halls. Recognizing the deep need to incorporate emotional and mental health into education, I went to Dominican University and earned 2 teaching credentials (special education and general subjects) and incorporated my psychology background to inform my work as a special education teacher and as a learning specialist. I love all teaching, but the individual attention possible with tutoring is the most rewarding. I teach all ages, subjects, and abilities.

Bryson Herrick

Hello! My name is Bryson. I studied at Stanford, majoring in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience. Since graduating, I have been working with students along the Peninsula for the past 6 years. As such, I’m well-acquainted with the rigorous curricula of Bay Area courses and the high expectations of the students who take them. In many ways, learning a science is like learning a new language; you start with some vocabulary, but the grammar is confusing and scary. Often units are presented separately with no obvious connection between them. As an educator, I pride myself on being able to build these conceptual bridges. I like to invite strange questions from students, both to test my own understanding and to build students’ engagement in their own education. In turn, I hope to develop those critical thinking skills necessary for success in high school and college.

As a fourth-generation educator, I like to think that teaching is in my genes. The most rewarding part of teaching is being lucky enough to have the opportunity to help students excel in math, physics, and general number sense, especially during a time when we need to be skilled at math in order to get into a good college and get a successful and fulfilling job. I love that I get to be a part toward helping all students succeed.

After getting my master’s in math education, I have been a math teacher for middle and high school, a math specialist/math coach for 1st through 4th grade, and currently, I write math questions for state tests in grades 3-12 for several states throughout the US. I have a great passion not only for mathematics, but also for sharing my love of numeracy with students, so they can see its beauty and importance and can use math to help them prosper in life!"
